About Ramattra

Ramattra is a character from Overwatch. He is a tank hero that was added to the game on 06.12.2022. He is many things, a former monk at the Shambali monastery, an engineer and inventor, the leader of Null Sector and a protector of omnics. And of course, my dear husband ♥ He is 28 years old and his birthday is on March 29th.

He is so cool and handsome...

However, this was not the first time we saw him nor felt his presence in the story! As the leader of Null Sector, we could see his handiwork before his official release as a playable character. I remember playing the Storm rising event back in 2019 and he left a big impression on me. If I’m honest, one of my first thoughts was: “Who is this handsome mysterious guy?” I didn’t fall in love with him instantly, as I don't really believe in love at first sight but I was very curious. So, when he was added properly to the game and I got to know him more I was so happy! Ramattra really exceeded my expectations. He was everything I could have wished for and so much more, I love him…

Ramattra is very driven, smart, tenacious, curious and protective of his people and beliefs. He and other omnics have indeed suffered a lot and instead of giving up seeing that, he is the one to take action. It’s true that he is very extreme in his ways, but he isn’t simply a “racist robot”. I think one of the important details to understanding Ramattra is his model. He is an R-7000, a "ravager".

“R-7000s, unlike many other omnics, were never made by human hands. The rogue god program Anubis, the architect of the Omnic Crisis, built us in secret places and unleashed us upon the world. We were designed to lead its mindless armies, to hunt humans. We were made for murder.”

While many humans hate omnics in general, R-7000s receive that hate tenfold. After the omnic crisis R-7000s were hunted almost to extinction by humans. When he was still a monk he was almost killed by a group of humans with no other reasoning behind their actions than who he is, what he is.

“You aren't a popular bunch. Not that I’m saying it's right. But...what with everything you—and I don’t mean you exactly—did in the Crisis, you, uh..."

“Make humans uncomfortable?"

“Exactly.”

During the omnic crisis, every omnic, Ramattra included was under the control of Anubis. The only one exempt from this was Aurora, who ended up sacrificng herself to give the others freedom and sentience. Despite this he and other omnics are blamed and punished for the violence that occurred during that time. Like I mentioned before, Ramattra used to be part of the Shambali monastery. Violence was not his first reaction even after having to deal with human prejudice. He wanted to achieve peace by peaceful means at the start. It is not his own being or safety that makes him go down the path he ends up on, it is the care he has for other omnics that drives him to do this.

However, I wouldn’t call him an ideal freedom fighter either. He has committed villainous acts and I’m not going to deny them or try to sugarcoat it, I think that would be injustice to him in a way? Ramattra is a complex individual with many ‘layers’. At the core of it all, he truly just wants to protect and guarantee a safe future for his fellow omnics. On top of that core, there is resentment and hatred for humanity, which I do think is understandable. Omnics are a “single generation race” as he says after all. He is willing to go to such lengths for his people, even if many condemn Null Sector and him. I find it admirable. I’m not exactly supporting his acts of terrorism, which have harmed both humans and his own people. He very much has a "the end justifies the means" type of thinking, he has a voiceline which goes: "History will forgive me, even if you cannot," which I think shows a lot of his mindset. He is willing to work with humans, as he has sort of an alliance with Talon right now.

Ramattra truly is incredible in my opinion. I love him just the way he is, all the good and the bad. I don’t need to pretend he is somehow better or more heroic to feel that way. I will be there for him, no matter what ♥

His favorite animal are ants btw. How cute is that...
